At the intersection of social work and design

Melissa Bachner is a designer, ceramicist and painter based in New York City.

Drawing from her extensive professional experience in social work and non-profit development, Melissa brings her understanding of individuals, families and communities to her interior design practice. In her work, she aims to design environments that are relaxed, nurturing and human.

She is inspired by the concept of hygge, a Danish word that eludes to the feeling of home that cocoons you in warmth and well-being.  This is the central design principle that Melissa applies to every interior design project. In order to create the ideal environment that is affordable, balanced and engaging, she often draws from the global world of designers and makers. Every project is an opportunity to source fresh styles, materials and textures that will enliven your own space.

Melissa received her Masters of Social Work at Yeshiva University. Most recently, she completed post-graduate courses in color theory, visual and spatial design, as well as received a certificate in Floral Art & Design, at Pratt.
